Dalhart has a mild, sunny year-round climate with easy accessibility to the winter and summer recreational areas in the nearby mountains. Four states lie within 75 miles of the city.

The city of Dalhart is located in two counties, Dallam and Hartley, and serves as the county seat for Dallam County. Dalhart is the center of other communities in the two counties, including Texline and Kerrick (located in Dallam County) and Hartley and Channing (located in Hartley County).

Dalhart is filled with brick streets, gracious old homes mixed with new ones, friendly faces and a place where tradition and family are still important. The city is proud of its western heritage and progressive attitude.

The quality of life in the Dalhart area is outstanding; it provides something for everyone. The LaRita Community Theatre, a restored 1920 movie theatre, is located in the downtown area. Dalhart offers a modern, twin screen movie theatre, a bowling alley, over 20 restaurants, 12 motels and a country club with an 18-hole golf course.

Dalhart's XIT Historical Museum contains several period rooms, exhibits on farming and ranching and extensive photographic and document archives covering the history of Dallam and Hartley counties. The XIT ranch in the 1880s was the largest range in the world under fence, and it all laid in the Texas panhandle. It's three-million acres sprawled from what is now Lubbock, Texas, northward to the Oklahoma panhandle, in an irregular strip that was roughly 30-miles wide. The annual XIT rodeo and reunion is held the first full weekend in August each year.

Wildlife such as antelope, deer, turkey, quail and pheasant abound in the area. Located on the southern flyway, Dalhart is host to an abundant variety of waterfowl.  Nature lovers will enjoy the opportunity to go bird watching, and the horse, bike and walking trails at the Lake Rita Blanca State Park located justs south of the city of Dalhart.
